Galvanizing Flux

Galvanizing flux is a chemical compound used to improve the adhesion of zinc to steel during the galvanizing process. It does this by removing any oxide layers that may be present on the steel surface, and by creating a layer of zinc chloride on the surface of the steel. This layer of zinc chloride helps to promote the formation of a strong bond between the zinc and the steel.

There are two main types of galvanizing flux: pre-flux and top-flux. Pre-flux is applied to the steel surface before it is dipped in the molten zinc. Top-flux is applied to the molten zinc bath itself.

Pre-flux is typically a liquid solution that contains zinc chloride, ammonium chloride, and other additives. It is applied to the steel surface using a spray gun or by dipping the steel in a tank of pre-flux solution.

Top-flux is typically a powder that is applied to the molten zinc bath using a spray gun. It contains zinc chloride, ammonium chloride, and other additives that help to create a barrier between the zinc and the air.

Galvanizing flux is an important part of the galvanizing process. It helps to ensure that the zinc coating will adhere to the steel surface and provide long-lasting corrosion protection.

Here are some of the benefits of using galvanizing flux:

  • Improves the adhesion of zinc to steel
  • Creates a layer of zinc chloride on the surface of the steel, which helps to promote the formation of a strong bond between the zinc and the steel
  • Helps to prevent corrosion of the steel
  • Reduces the amount of smoke and fumes produced during the galvanizing process
